SOUTH PORTLAND – Vivian Dean passed away Aug. 19, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Stuben on Nov. 25, 1938, to Carlton and Julia Dyer Pinkham. Vivian was the fifth child of nine children and the only girl.
Vivian was a natural athlete. Her love of sports began early. She played and coached girls and woman’s championship softball for years. Bowling was her passion. She bowled for 50 years winning numerous awards and trophies.
Vivian married Larry Dean in 1965 and moved to South Portland where they raised five children. Vivian loved children. She owned and operated Dean’s Daycare for 45 years.
Vivian leaves behind a brother, Rodney A. Pinkham Sr. of Stuben; daughters Brenda Orne (Mike) of Standish and Heidi Strout (Tim) of Windham, a son, Jim Dean of Windham. Vivian loved being “Mammie” to 11 grandchildren; and 11 greats. She was Aunt Viv to many nieces and nephews.
Vivian enjoyed the fellowship and support of her church family at Thorton Heights Methodist Church. Please join us in a Celebration of Life at Windham Veterans Center 35 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Windham, Sept. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
