Diana Mary Abbott

MILFORD – Diana Mary Abbott, 84, passed away on Sept. 12, 2024, in Milford.

Born on Jan. 31, 1940, Diana dedicated much of her life to education and community service, touching the lives of many throughout her career and volunteer work.

Diana graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1958 and pursued her passion for teaching at Gorham Teacher’s College, graduating in 1962. She began her teaching career at Arundel Elementary School, then moved to Wells Elementary School, where she taught until 1988. Post-retirement, she served at the Wells Public Library until 1994.

Her commitment extended beyond her professional life into numerous charitable organizations and historical societies. Diana’s hobbies included crafts, calligraphy, antique collecting, reading, and travel. She was particularly known for her role as a Children’s Storyteller at local events and cherished moments spent with her grandchildren at Mother’s Beach, the Wells Beach Arcade, and the Fryeburg Fair.

Diana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward “Buzzy” Abbott; her father, Ellsworth “Bo” Hutchins, mother, Dorothy Heaton; sister, Judy Quigley, and stepbrother, Frank Severance.

She is survived by her son, Darin Abbott and his wife Jennifer of Milford; brothers Jon Hutchins and his wife Kathy of Kennebunk, and brother-in-law, Glenn Quigley of Miami, Fla. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jeffrey Abbott Morrill and his wife Athena, Kyle Abbott, and Ashley Abbott; great-granddaughter, Diana Abbott Morrill; nephew, Maxwell Hutchins, nieces Katrina Quigley and Molly Hutchins; new great-nieces and nephews; relatives; and numerous friends she considered “her family.”

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 14 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, with visiting hours from 12-1 p.m. followed by the memorial service from 1-2 p.m. A Celebration of Life gathering for friends and family will be held at Saltwater Farm, 411 Post Rd. in Wells at 3:30 p.m.

Diana’s life was a testament to her dedication to education, love for her family, and commitment to her community. She will be deeply missed.
