William Bryan O’Brien
FREEPORT – William Bryan O’Brien, known as “OB” to his friends and family, departed for bluer seas on Oct. 26, 2024 in Freeport.
Born in Orange, N.J. on Oct. 20, 1940, OB joins his parents Virginia and Hugh O’Brien, and leaves behind his much-loved family, including his three sons, Brit, Denis, and Bourke and their lovely partners Gretchen, Laura and Lisa; brother, Tino and his wife Elizabeth, his loving sisters Kerry and Wendy; five cherished grandchildren, Chelsea, Abby, Reilly, Alexandra and Braden; ex-wives Jean and Susan; and many nieces and nephews.
A history major from the University of Maine Orono, and a Lance Corporal in the USMC, he was employed in various industries throughout his life. His time as head diver and owner of Underwater Services of Maine defined his career.
He enjoyed summers on the New Jersey shore in his youth, and Pemaquid Harbor and Spruce Head, later in life. OB had an unmatched ability to charm and occasionally endearingly offend his many admirers with his outsized personality, storytelling, and awe-inspiring sense of humor.
OB loved to travel, and his many exploits included climbing the Egyptian pyramids, crossing the Sahara in a station wagon, roaming China and Tibet, and diving for treasure in Bermuda, Greece, Delaware, and Haiti. His impact on his many friends and relatives was fathomless! He will be missed but not forgotten.
Semper Fi, OB!
