Dean C. Wiley

LEWISTON – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dean C. Wiley on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a long illness.

Dean was born in Naples, the fifth child and second son of Shirley and Vivian (Sargent) Wiley, on Nov. 2, 1939. He attended Naples Elementary School and Bridgton High School, graduating in 1958. After high school, Dean was employed by Jim Build of Naples, driving truck. In 1960 he moved to Washington, D.C., where his fiancee Carolyn Virginia Rose from Casco, was residing, and found work there as a heavy equipment operator. They were married in November 1960 and had two sons while living in the Washington, D.C. area. Wanting to raise their family in Maine, they returned to Naples in 1971. Together with Carolyn’s mother, Emma, and Dean’s father, Shirley, they built their home on family land in Naples. Dean worked for Hewson Marine, now Sabre Yachts, until he took over operation of the family dairy farm, becoming the fourth generation of dairy farmers.

When Oakhurst Dairy announced they would no longer pick up milk from several small local dairies, Dean sold his 50 head of cattle, worked for a short time at PK Sand and Gravel then found work at Maine Correctional Center in South Windham as a maintenance mechanic, retiring in September of 2010. Post retirement Dean worked at PK Sand and Gravel in Naples as a heavy equipment operator until 2023. Dean was happiest when he was on a tractor.

Dean was a member of the Naples Volunteer Fire Department for many years. It was much appreciated that while farming he was always in town and available when the call came in. Dean and Carolyn enjoyed camping, canoeing and kayaking with the family which now included grandchildren, camping throughout Maine, Vermont, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Cathedral Pines Campground, Eustis being one of their favorites. A 2010 trip to visit former Maryland neighbors who were then living in Florida began a yearly tradition of vacationing on the Gulf Coast. They traveled to the Grand Canyon and Arizona on their 50th Anniversary, returning often to Sedona, one of their favorite destinations. Later travels included Alaska, cruising the Inside Passage to Vancouver, and several National Parks.

Dean is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn, his two sons, Todd and partner Donna Kiesman, Bruce and partner Sandy Fowler, both of Naples, two grandsons, Joshua Wiley of Braden, Florida and Daniel Wiley, wife Alicia and Step-daughter Emelia of Palm Harbor, Florida, sister Janice Palmer of Oakland, brother Donald and wife Dorothy of Clearwater, Florida, sisters-in-law Kristina Cote of Plainville, Conn., and Becky Rose and husband Michael Hewett of West Paris, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road in Casco. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Mar. 8th. Spring interment will be at the Crooked River Cemetery in Naples.
