Hubert “Tom” Ingram
PORTLAND – Hubert “Tom” Ingram, 87, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, following a period of declining health and complications from Leukemia.
Tom was born in 1937 in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Globe, N.C., the youngest of 11 children to the late Charley and Coty Bradshaw Ingram.
After graduating from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy serving as an aviation machinist mate and aircrewman aboard P2V-7 Neptune anti-submarine hunting aircraft of Patrol Squadron 23 (VP-23 Seahawks) based out of Brunswick Naval Air Station and Keflavik Iceland.
It was while serving in the Navy that Tom met the love of his life, Sandra Lowell of Portland. Married for 67 years, their family grew to four children and seven grandchildren. Tom was a long-time employee of the John J. Nissan Baking Company where he made many friendships and retired after a 37-year career. He enjoyed golf, horseracing, fishing with his grandchildren, and playing cards with his good friends.
Tom leaves behind his loving wife Sandra; three sons, Timothy (Melinda), Peter (Susan), Steven (Kerrie), a daughter, Susan (Melissa); a sister, Margie; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Liz), Cameron (Milan), Alexander, Rachel (Kyle), Matthew (Rachel), Benjamin, Michael; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Joe, Jack, Denver, Frank, Fred, Jesse and sisters Eva, Dorothy, and Mildred.
Tom was a kind and gentle soul, proud of his southern heritage, and thankful for the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday March 29 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a noontime funeral service all at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home in Portland. Burial, with military honors, at Brooklawn Cemetery in Portland, will be private.
