Army Pvt. Jordan M. Bassett has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Peter Bassett and Susan Ruel of Portland and is a 2009 graduate of Deering High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Mark D. Small has been mobilized at Fort Dix, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom. Small is a member of the 94th Military Police Company, Londonderry, N.H., and has three years of military service. He is the son of Paul and Sharon Coskery of Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School in 2005.

Army Pvt. Jacob A. Martin has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.He is the son of Keith Martin of Gouldsboro and the grandson of George Collins of Yarmouth. Martin is a 2005 graduate of the Camden Community School.

Army Maj. Anthony P. Barbina recently graduated from the Intermediate Level Education Course at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kan. He is the son of James and Lu Anne Barbina, Bethesda, Ohio. His wife, Summer, is the daughter of Paul and Nancy Wagner of Scarborough.

Barbina is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq. The major has served in the military.

Cadet/Chief Master Sgt. Julian Kingsley recently became the new Cadet Commander of the 58th Composite Squadron of the Maine Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, replacing Cadet/Chief Master Sgt. Nicholas Woodman. Kingsley is from Portland and has just graduated from Deering High School. He has been a member of the 58th Squadron for more than four years.

Also, 1st Sergeant C/MSgt Stephanie Nowicki of Old Orchard Beach has succeeded C/SMSgt Tyler Nadeau of Saco.
