Logan Curry recorded a hat trick with a goal in each period, leading the Cheverus co-op girls’ hockey team to a 6-1 win over the Portland co-op on Thursday at Troubh Ice Arena.
Joey Pompeo added a goal and two assists, and Jaylee Radford and Abigail Titus also scored for the Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach/Windham (3-1-2). Radford broke a 1-1 tie in the second period.
Portland/Deering/South Portland/Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete (2-4) struck first on a goal by Mikaela Furt just 50 seconds into the game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
POLAND 50, LAKE REGION 44: Payton Rose sparked a third-quarter surge by scoring nine of her 12 points, and the Knights (2-1) defeated the Lakers (0-2) in Poland.
Alivia Lemieux led Poland with 14 points, and Maddison Bosse added 11. The Knights trailed 23-19 at halftime, then took control by outscoring Lake Region 22-8 in the third quarter.
Lake Region’s Samantha Jones (12 points) and Alison Bourgoin (nine) combined for seven 3-pointers.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 62, LEAVITT 13: Ella Kennedy scored 20 points to lead the Patriots (3-0) over the Hornets (2-1) in Gray.
Bryn Gilmore added 15 points and Abbey Steele chipped in 10.
Sophia Poulin scored six points for Leavitt.
WINTHROP 50, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 43: Kylee Mansir scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half as the Ramblers (2-1) overcame a 28-14 halftime deficit against the Seagulls (1-2) in Old Orchard Beach.
Evelyn Mortimer contributed 12 points, and Bella Baehr and Kylee Savage each had nine for Winthrop, which climbed back into the game with an 18-7 edge in the third quarter, then closed out the comeback with an 18-8 advantage in the fourth.
Corinne Androkitis led the Seagulls with 18 points. Androkitis and Megan Dow (11 points) each made three 3-pointers.
BOYS BASKETBALL
WINTHROP 53, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 49: Graham Huri paced the Ramblers (2-1) with 16 points in a win over the Seagulls (1-2) in Winthrop.
Joshua Foster added 14 and Korbin Littler chipped in with 11.
Trot Moody recorded 24 points for the Seagulls.
SACOPEE VALLEY 55, TELSTAR 50: Silas Nielsen scored five of his 24 points in overtime as the Hawks (3-0) survived a big second-half comeback by the Rebels (0-3) in Hiram.
Nielsen also grabbed 14 rebounds, but Sacopee needed overtime to pull out the win after Telstar erased a 29-13 halftime deficit.
The Hawks were 4 for 4 from the field in overtime.
Telstar’s Connor Deprey scored 20 of his 24 points after halftime. Alex Doughty added 11 points.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 92, TEMPLE ACADEMY 28: Collin Verrill scored 26 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Breakers (1-1) rolled past the Bereans (0-4) in Waterville.
Lucky Kabeya and Rhett Tyson each finished with 15 points for Pine Tree. Kabeya made five 3-pointers.
Timeo Lepaix led Temple with 10 points.
ERSKINE ACADEMY 55, LINCOLN ACADEMY 44: Gavin Fanjoy led a balanced attack as Erskine Academy (2-1) beat Lincoln Academy (1-2) in South China.
Fanjoy scored 14 points, while Carter Ulmer had 10 and Cam Coutts and Wyatt Michaud both had nine for Erskine.
Chase Ober had 15 points and Aidyn Herring had 10 for Lincoln.
KENNEBUNK 65, BIDDEFORD 46: Jaiden Homa scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half as the Rams (2-0) pulled away from the Tigers (0-2) in Biddeford.
Chris Thompson contributed 16 points and Dylan Myhal had 12 for Kennebunk, which led 31-28 at halftime.
Biddeford got 14 points from Julius Searles and 11 from Avery McCann.
LAKE REGION 65, POLAND 54: Cooper Smith led the way for the Lakers (1-1) with 18 points in a win over the Knights (1-2) in Poland.
Reid Plummer contributed 15 points, and Jacoby Bardsley and Braydan Wilson finished with nine apiece for Lake Region.
Poland’s Damon Martin led all scorers with 19 points.
LEAVITT 68, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 62: Darren Flagg scored eight of his 21 points in overtime, lifting the Hornets (2-1) to a victory over the Patriots (2-1) in Turner.
All three of Leavitt’s games this season have gone to overtime. Brody Poland (three) and Flagg combined to hit four consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then Flagg opened the extra period with two more treys. The Hornets iced the win by making 7 of 8 free throws.
Flagg finished with five 3-pointers. Poland made four 3s and scored 17 points. Colin Scholbohm contributed 13 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, five steals and three blocks, while Jacob Gibbs (two 3s) added 10 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
Carter Davis hit four treys and led Gray-New Gloucester with 17 points. Isaiah Portas scored 15 points and Quentin Warrick had 13.
GIRLS HOCKEY
BIDDEFORD CO-OP 2, EDWARD LITTLE CO-OP 0: Freshmen Florence Radford and Ashley Davis each scored for Biddeford/Thornton Academy/Kennebunk in its victory over Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland/Oxford Hills at Biddeford Ice Arena.
Ashley Sanderson and Sophia Auger recorded assists for the Biddeford co-op. Goalie Mariah Villandry earned the shutout.
Biddeford (5-1) is ranked third in the Varsity Maine poll, while the Red Hornets (4-1) are No. 1.
GREELY CO-OP 2, WINSLOW CO-OP 1: Charley Louie made 57 saves as Greely/Gray-New Gloucester (1-4) beat Winslow/Gardiner/Cony/Lawrence/Messalonskee/Maranacook/Erskine (2-3-1) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Laiken Cooney gave Greely a 1-0 lead in the first period, and Dahlia Irving-Davis made it 2-0 early in the second.
Josephine Kelley scored an unassisted goal for the Black Tigers later in the second period.
