Donald D. Galipeau
WINDHAM – Donald D. Galipeau passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2025, at Mercy Hospital.
Born on April 6, 1942, to Gerard and Yvette Galipeau of Westbrook, Donald served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. After returning home, he proudly earned his GED from Portland High School, a testament to his determination and commitment to bettering his life and future.
While stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, he met the love of his life, Jean, and they were married in November 1962. Don returned from the service to New Jersey to his wife Jean and his newborn daughter; shortly thereafter, they relocated to Westbrook.
Donald worked for S.D. Warren for several years before joining Sam DiBiase, where he continued to build his skills and strong work ethic. He later began a machinist position at Hill Acme in Gorham, eventually becoming Plant Foreman through dedication and leadership.
A devoted community member, Donald volunteered for many years with Westbrook Rescue, ultimately serving as president. He was instrumental in organizing fundraisers and going door-to-door to raise money for new rescue equipment, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact on the community he loved.
Donald will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, and his deep commitment to helping others. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched
Don enjoyed having his family over and hosting backyard cookouts and lobster bakes. He loved camping, spending winters in Florida, and sharing lunches with his friends. These moments brought him great joy and reflected the warmth, humor, and companionship he carried throughout his life.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Renee Gore and her husband John of Windham, his son, David Galipeau and his wife JoAnne of South Portland; his sister, Norma Galipeau of Buxton, sister-in-law, Mary Galipeau of Greenville, S.C.; son-in-law, Jim Powers of Windham.
He leaves behind his grandchildren, Amanda Campbell and Chris (partner), Sabrina Varney and Nick (husband), Alex Woods and Doug (husband), Kaelyn Galipeau and Sam (fiancé), Catherine Galipeau, Amy Grant and Matt (husband), Ashley Chick and Cam (husband), and Mariah Gore.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jaylynne, Christine, Cayden, Chloe, Carter and Claira.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean; his parents Gerard and Yvette; his brother, Phil; and his daughter, Lisa.
A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Dec. 27 at 11 a.m., with a celebration of life to follow at American Legion Windham.
