Carl Frederick Currie Sr.

WINDHAM – Carl Frederick Currie Sr., 74, of Windham, passed away on Dec. 18, 2025 after a long battle with cardiomyopathy. A lifelong Mainer with a strong spirit and a love for the outdoors, Carl’s life was one of hard work, grit, and deep connection to both family, and the wilderness he loved so dearly.

Carl was born on Nov. 6, 1951, to Robert Sr. and Dorothy Thompson Currie. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Robert Currie, Jr.

He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Carol Anne (Wilkins); his children, Kendrick (Amy) Currie of Portland, Patience (Derek) Stetson of New Gloucester, Carl Jr. (Shari) of Portland; his sister, Carol (Rob) Sobczak of South Portland; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Currie, Joshua and Vallorie Stetson; stepsons Dan of Gray; Brian and partner Kristen and their children of Silver Spring, Md.; as well as six nieces and nephews, their children; and many lifelong friends.

Carl graduated from South Portland High School in 1970 and worked as a master plumber for almost 30 years at South Portland Gardens (Redbank) as well as his own plumbing company, Currie & Sons.

Often described as a “mountain man”, Carl’s passion was the woods of Maine. He built a hunting and fishing camp in Stratton with his Dad and brother in 1985 and loved hunting deer, bear, moose and birds.

Carl’s ashes will be spread on Eustis Ridge, serenaded by Black Sabbath’s Iron Man. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2026.
