River Arts in Damariscotta opened its exhibition “New Works” April 7 and will host a public reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 11. The exhibition highlights artists’ most current work and will be on view through May 16.

Juried by Daisy Greene, longtime teacher at Round Top Center for the Arts, “New Works” showcases an energetic and dynamic selection. Greene noted that she was immediately struck by the energy of the work upon first viewing it.

“It was a privilege to witness such inspiring and uplifting pieces from the contributing artists,” Greene said in a prepared release. “The artwork submitted for ‘New Works’ was absolutely top-notch.”

River Arts is also celebrating acrylic artist Jamie Spooner’s exhibition, “Glimmer & Glow: Illuminating the Coast of Maine,” on view in the River Room. An opening reception for this exhibition will be held concurrently with the “New Works” reception on Saturday.

Spooner’s signature playful style uses bright color and a keen ability to capture glowing light, portraying the drama of an ordinary day along the Maine coast.

River Arts is located at 36 Elm St. in Damariscotta. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, visit riverartsme.org or call 207-563-6868.
