Robert “Bob” Brewer
NAPLES, Fla. – Robert “Bob” Brewer, 83, passed away March 20, 2026. He was born Feb. 27, 1943, in Rockland, Maine, the son of Robert and Phyllis Brewer. He met his wife, Marie (Cavanaugh) Brewer of Rockport in high school. They later settled in Portland where they raised their family.
He was a three sport athlete at Rockland High School and played basketball at the University of Maine at Orono. After college, Bob was a teacher and renowned basketball coach at Cheverus High School for 26 years. His teams won 323 games and three state championships. He was SMAA Coach of the Year five times and inducted into the Mid-Coast Sports Hall of Fame, Maine Basketball Hall of Fame and New England Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements as a player and coach.
After retiring from teaching, Bob moved to Naples. Fla. and pursued his interest in real estate, property management and development with much success.
His never-ending perseverance, exceptional work ethic, desire to mentor and help others were guiding principles his entire life.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; children Chris (Deb) and Suzanne (Don); three grandchildren, Kate, Alex and Andrew; brother, Arnold (Carol), sister, Ruth; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday April 22, with a service at 6 p.m. to immediately follow at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland.
