Emma Boulette, Westbrook senior shortstop: Boulette is a two-time SMAA All-Star and the “heart (and) leader of the team,” coach Brian Ross said. One of the best pure hitters in the area, she had a .481 average last year without striking out once.

Reese Bryant, Bonny Eagle junior pitcher/shortstop: A University of Maine commit, Bryant anchors the team again at shortstop but will also pitch more after throwing only four innings last spring. She hit just under .400 and is a “dirt dog,” coach Travis Emmons said.

Addie Caiazzo, Windham senior shortstop/pitcher: Caiazzo was the speedy leadoff hitter for the Class A champions last year and batted .500 with five triples. She’s a great defensive shortstop but will likely pitch a lot of innings for the Eagles this spring.

Piper Catanese, York senior shortstop: Catanese lit up Class B pitching last year, batting .641 with 41 hits while scoring 42 runs. She hit 14 doubles, smacked four home runs, and made only one error in the field. She also excels at hitting good pitching.

Ava Cole, Lake Region junior pitcher/first base: Cole returns as the Lakers’ top pitcher and a potent bat in the lineup. She hit .500 last year with 34 hits and 16 RBI, and was named a second-team all-conference player in the Western Maine Conference.

Addison DeRoche, Cheverus junior pitcher: One of the best high school pitchers in the country, DeRoche had a 12-1 record with a 0.43 ERA and 177 strikeouts in 81 innings a year ago. The Florida State commit also may be the state’s best power hitter, with a .533 average and seven home runs.

Payton Fazzina, Wells senior shortstop: The slap-hitting Fazzina is a four-year starter and a problem for opponents when she gets on base. She batted .448 with 30 hits last year, and turned that into 30 stolen bases. She’s also the vocal leader of the infield.

Maddie Fitzgerald, York senior first base: The reigning Western Maine Conference Player of the Year batted .547 last year with 35 hits and 33 RBI while scoring 42 runs. She’s a threat to steal bases and is also a smooth fielder at first base.

Scarlett Floyd, Scarborough sophomore shortstop/pitcher: In her freshman year, Floyd impressed enough to rise to the leadoff spot in the Red Storm lineup. She can hit and run, has a good softball IQ, and could become one of the SMAA’s top young players.

Yani Kostopoulos, Windham sophomore first base/catcher: Kostopoulos emerged as Windham’s DH last year and immediately showed an ability to hit good pitching, and for power. She batted .481, slugged four homers, and led the team with 28 RBI.

Thea Laukka, Camden Hills junior shortstop: Laukka was a first-team all-KVAC pick while helping the Windjammers reach the Class A North semifinals. She batted .476, was a threat on the bases with 20 steals, and is a plus-defender at shortstop with great range.

Bella McBrady, Gorham senior pitcher: An SMAA all-star last year, McBrady is likely one of the top two or three returning pitchers in the league. She struck out 94 in 92 innings with a 2.35 ERA, and also batted .326 with eight extra-base hits and 19 RBI.

Jordan Nash, North Yarmouth Academy senior shortstop/pitcher: Nash is the reigning WMC Class C Player of the Year and has been an impact player for the Panthers since her freshman season. She can play any position, and she hit .561 with 37 hits, including 16 for extra bases.

Sidney Nicholls, Medomak Valley junior pitcher: No one had a bigger playoff breakout than Nicholls, who dominated Class B lineups and led the Panthers to the state title. In 28 playoff innings, she struck out 55 batters without allowing an earned run.

Phoebe Paradis, Poland junior pitcher/utility: The versatile Paradis has been the Knights’ leading hitter each of the last two seasons. In addition to pitching, she can catch and play shortstop, and is coming off a season in which she batted .520 and struck out 83 in 53 innings.

Mariah Villandry, Biddeford senior catcher: Biddeford’s lone returning SMAA All-Star, Villandry is a four-year starter. After starting as an outfielder, she’s become one of the league’s top catchers and hit .446 last year in the second spot.

Sawyer VonderHaar, Gorham senior shortstop: VonderHaar was arguably the SMAA’s best shortstop last year and will again be the biggest threat in the lineup for a team that should contend. She batted .558 with three home runs, 21 RBI and a 1.538 OPS.

Katie Wallace, Greely senior shortstop: The Trinity College commit is full-tilt in the field and on the basepaths, capable of making diving catches and throws from her knees, and taking the extra base. She hit .542 last year, belted five home runs and scored 29 runs.
