Fiore Rosario DiPietrantonio
SACO – Fiore “Fred” “Freddie” DiPietrantonio, 81, died on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Seal Rock Longterm Care Facility in Saco.
He was born in Portland and grew up in the Munjoy Hill area in the Italian neighborhoods. He often said he just wanted to go back to Fore Street. He attended Portland High School and served in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Germany.
Fred was a hard worker who was employed by the International Longshoremen’s Association on the Portland Wharf for many years, as well as 25 years with Capozza Floor Center in Portland. He was also known as a jokester and made many of us laugh, including his caretakers at Seal Rock and the nurses at the hospital. He would often randomly sing snippets of songs and say funny quotes and words, which was very amusing.
He could be a bit of a curmudgeon in his later years and didn’t mind telling anyone to let him be when needed, sometimes with his colorful way of speaking. He will be missed.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fiore DiPietrantonio and Dorothy (DiRenzo) DiPietrantonio; and his wife, Jeanette (Morrill) DiPietrantonio. They were married for 46 years.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Deanna DiPietrantonio and four stepchildren; his siblings, Barbara Jones (who lovingly cared for him after his wife’s passing), Jacquelyn Huff and Dennis DiPietrantonio; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces, nephews; and friends.
Burial, a simple graveside service and a military honors ceremony will be at the West Gorham Cemetery on Dow Road in Gorham on April 25, at 10 a.m. He will be placed next to his devoted wife.
Any pictures or memories of Fred to share or give to the family are deeply appreciated. An online obituary is also posted at http://www.mainefuneral.com
