Irene Roger Pepin

KENNEBUNK – Irene Roger Pepin, known affectionately to her family as “Mémère”, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at the age of 78. A woman of quiet strength and profound kindness, she spent her final days surrounded by the love of the family that was her entire world.

Born in Morristown, Vt., to the late Gerard and Rita Pepin, Irene moved through life creating a sanctuary of comfort for those around her. She was a trailblazer in her professional life, dedicated to a successful 30-year career as a pipefitter for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Her hard work provided a foundation for her family and earned her the respect of her colleagues in a demanding field.

Outside of her professional achievements, Irene was a person of simple pleasures. She was an avid quilter, finding joy in the rhythmic work of creating beauty alongside her friends.

To those who knew her, Mémère was the steady pulse of her family. She offered a gentle spirit and a quick smile to every situation, guiding her loved ones through every season of life with patience and unconditional love. Whether she was doting over her grandchildren or offering quiet advice, her presence was a source of constant sanctuary.

Irene is survived by her four children, Michelle Hayward, Brian Valiamont, Tracy Malloch, and Laura Stoneking; her sisters, Janet Perry and Yvone Stolp; her five beloved grandchildren, Carlton Powers, Marlene Malloch, Ariana Stoneking, Payson Stoneking and Logan Malloch. She was predeceased by her parents, Gerard and Rita Pepin, with whom she is now reunited.
