A Portland man was arrested and charged Saturday in connection with a shooting and assault at a Westbrook residence, authorities said.
Westbrook police responded to 156 Bridgton Road (U.S. Route 302) shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday for a reported disturbance, possibly involving a weapon, the department said in a news release Monday.
While officers were en route to the scene, a 911 caller reported gunshots coming from the residence, police said.
Officers arrived and detained multiple people outside the home. Inside, they found one person who had been shot in both legs and another who reported being assaulted.
Both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
One of the people apprehended outside — Shuceyb Hersi, 36, of Portland — was identified as the suspected shooter and taken into custody.
Hersi is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of elevated aggravated assault and one count of reckless conduct, according to police. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
Westbrook police said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no danger to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
