Flossie Kidder Barton

WELLS – Flossie Kidder Barton, 90, of Wells, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Flossie was born on March 3, 1936, in Dixfield, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Morse) Kidder. She graduated from Deering High School in 1954 and married Wesley Barton in that same year. She raised their family in Cumberland, worked as a teacher’s aid for the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school district and volunteered for the Congregational Church. Her handmade Christmas ornaments were a huge hit at the annual church Xmas fair for many years with people rushing her craft table upon the doors of the fair opening.

After her kids grew up, she worked for the Portland Press Herald in the circulation department, for 19 years, in which she earned a strong reputation for efficiency and organization along with making many colleagues and friends.

Flossie is survived by her daughter Lori Barton and her husband Bill Hickey, her sons and their wives James and Sandy, Chris and Lisa; nine grandchildren, Alex, Lindsey, Adam, Carolyn, Ashley, Elizabeth, Victoria, Erica and Carolyn; six great-grandchildren. She also left behind her nieces Kim Campbell and Debbie Tamietti and nephew, Scott Picavet and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Florence; her sister, Arlene and her brother, Walter.

The family will have a private celebration of life to be held in the spring. The family thanks Avita of Wells for three years of loving care as well as the Affinity Hospice staff for their warm-hearted support.
