Terry O’Brien
CROWLEY, Texas – Terry O’Brien, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Crowley, Texas.
Born on July 28, 1943, in South Portland, he served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1986 where he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His career continued after retiring from the USAF at Singer-Link, Raytheon, Hughes Electronics, and L3 Communications.
Terry’s life was defined by exceptional athleticism, discipline, and true sportsmanship. He was three-time national AAU Luge champion, two-time North American Luge champion, and three-time Olympian where he proudly represented the United States in 1968, 1972, and 1976, serving as captain of the U.S. Luge Team. He was an avid golfer, participating in yearly golf outings to Myrtle Beach to reconnect with friends and make new friendships.
Terry is survived by his children, Kevin O’Brien (Sally) and Jennifer O’Brien; mother of his children, Ida (Ann) Massenburg; partner, Teresa Amspacher; grandchildren, Jacob, Savana, Reid, and Spencer; great-granddaughter, Zola; sisters Kathleen Kemna (Joe), Francine Libby (George), and Roberta Cahill (Bruce); niece, Kristen Cremonese; and his beloved dogs Gunnar and Freckles.
Terry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Edward and Edith Kelsen O’Brien.
