Westbrook firefighters rescued a dog from the roof of an apartment building on Wednesday.

The dog, River, got on the roof through an open window, according to the Westbrook Professional Firefighters Association. A passerby who noticed the dog called the fire department.

Firefighters responded to the two-story apartment building on Main Street, and using a ladder, they brought the dog — who was wearing a bandana — back down to safety.
