William “Bill” Carney

SACO – William “Bill” Carney died peacefully at his home on May 19, 2026.

Born in Bucksport, Bill earned a Business Education degree but ended up trading the classroom for retail. A part-time job turned into a 30-year career where he rose through the ranks to manage one of the largest Sears stores in the country.

Bill loved tennis. After a well-placed return volley, he was known to turn to his opponent and ask, “Any questions?” He was fun, funny, and always in charge.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Carney; his son, Tim Carney and daughter-in-law Christina Carney, his daughter, Catherine Carney and son-in-law Jamey Evans; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
