Lawrence “Larry” Anton
NAPLES – Lawrence “Larry” Anton, 83, of Naples, died Saturday, May 30, 2026 in the comfort of his home in Naples.
Larry was born May 31, 1943 in The Bronx, N.Y. He was the son of William Anton and Beatrice Hueber. He graduated from Hicksville High School on Long Island in 1961. He worked his way through St. John’s University, graduating with a degree in Chemistry in 1965. He worked for six years at Grumman Aerospace on the Lunar Module project team.
In 1966, he married Marcella Lepanto, his college sweetheart. Upon obtaining his MBA in Finance from St. John’s, the two worked at their own accounting firm in Northport, N.Y. Larry taught accounting and taxation for several years at Brooklyn College and CW Post Center of Long Island University.
Larry retired in 1991 and moved permanently to the summer home he physically built on Trickey Pond in Naples after Marcella fell seriously ill. The two traveled extensively until her passing in 2005 after 39 years together.
As Larry became a resident of Naples he served his community in numerous ways. He helped start a food pantry in Bridgton and served as the Chairman of the Planning Board for the town of Naples. He sat on the Naples Conservation Commission, chaired the Naples Comprehensive Plan Committee and was spokesman for the Ordinance Review Committee. He represented the Lakes Region on the Board of Trustees for PROP as Treasurer and President. He was a Founding Board Member and Treasurer of the Trickey Pond Environmental Protection Association Inc., an association dedicated to the preservation of his beloved Trickey Pond.
In August 2007 he married Mary Ann Dacus. They enjoyed their 19 years together entertaining family and friends on Trickey Pond and traveling the world. Mary Ann preceded Larry in death just 13 days prior. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Anton. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Brown, his brother John Anton and his wife Diane, his stepdaughter Christa Dacus, his step-granddaughter Christiana Carlini and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the Naples Union Church (next to the Naples Public Library). A brief graveside service will follow at the Crooked River Cemetery in Naples. We ask that you come as you are and bring your memories and stories.
