While there are tons of big-name acts coming through the state this summer, let’s not forget that we’ve got plenty of Maine musicians worth seeing.
Here are five shows happening this week in Portland and Freeport that delve into originals, funk and soul covers and Celtic roots music.
Lyle & Phil Divinsky
5:30 p.m. Thursday. One Longfellow Square, 181 State St., Portland, $20 in advance, $25 at the door. onelongfellowsquare.com.
Lyle Divinsky performs solo at 8 p.m. Thursday at One Longfellow Square, $20 in advance, $25 at the door. onelongfellowsquare.com.
For some soulful father and son musical magic, head to One Longfellow Square to hear Phil Divinsky and his son Lyle belt some tunes out. Both have been performing music for many years in Maine. Lyle’s musical path has led him to move away from Maine, to front the Colorado-based funk and soul band The Motet. He left that band, but still calls Colorado home. Lyle has been singing with his dad for as long as he can remember and says Phil is the reason he became a musician. Lyle described the Portland show as “two voices built for each other, trading songs, swapping verses, telling stories and opening up the Divinsky family songbook.”
We can expect originals and covers from the duo. Lyle’s solo show will likely feature a few of his local musician friends. When he heads back to Denver, Lyle will be getting to work with his new band GrandBrother, which includes fellow Mainer Dane Farnsworth from Model Airplane, who is moving to Colorado next month.
Andi Fawcett
6 p.m. Friday. Portland Harbor Hotel, 468 Fore St., Portland, free. harborbistroandterrace.com.
I’ve been a fan of singer-songwriter Andi Fawcett since the late ’90s. From her old band Relish, to her solo stuff and as a member of Doubting Gravity, Fawcett has been a constant part of the greater Portland music scene. She also consistently plays many shows a week. Head to her Andi Fawcett Music Facebook page, where she posts her schedule every week. On Friday, you can expect a mix of originals and covers. She’ll also be playing with Doubting Gravity on Sunday at 11 a.m. as part of the Drive Fore Kids golf tournament at Falmouth Country Club.
Bailey’s Mistake
7 p.m. Friday. Cadenza, 5 Depot St., Freeport, $30 in advance, $35 at the door, $15 students. cadenzafreeport.com.
Bailey’s Mistake plays Celtic American roots music incredibly well. The four-piece band comprises Troy R. Bennett (guitar, vocals), Travis Cote (bagpipes), Dean Craig (percussion) and Rob Babson (bass), all seasoned musicians and all graduates of Bonny Eagle High School in Standish. If you can’t make it to the Cadenza show, the band has several other upcoming performances, including July 6 at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth and at the Denmark Arts Center on July 10. The band’s latest single is the snappy “Nancy Whiskey.”

Gina & The Red Eye Flight Crew
8 p.m. Mondays. Through Aug. 31. Live at Madrid’s, 144 Fore St., Portland, $15.14, 18-plus. liveatmadrids.com.
You can shake your booty every Monday night because Gina & The Red Eye Flight Crew have a red-hot summer Funky Monday residency at Live at Madrid’s. This is the band that packed the house on opening night and has been tearing up Maine stages for several years. With a blend of R&B, funk, soul and rock covers, the band comprises an all-star list of local musicians, including singer Gina Alibrio, guitarist Max Cantlin, keys player Tyler Quist and horn player Emma Stanley.
