Charlotte Faye (Hillman) Bryant
FALMOUTH – Charlotte Faye Hillman Bryant, 95, died peacefully in Falmouth on July 1, 2026. Charlotte was born in Portland on Sept. 4, 1930, the daughter of Kenneth Norman Hillman and Dorothy Saltmarsh Hillman. Charlotte graduated from Deering High School in 1948, and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1952. She married George Edward Bryant on June 28, 1953.
Charlotte taught elementary school in Belfast, Westbrook, and Geneva, N.Y. She loved the Red Sox, knitting and embroidery, and music. Maine always had a special place in her heart, but she also loved Toronto and Halifax, where she and her family lived for many years before returning to Maine. Charlotte always attributed her long and happy life to a loving family, many friends, a positive attitude, walks on the beach, and, of course, “good Maine air”.
Charlotte was predeceased by George Bryant, her husband of 47 years; her sister, Virginia Thurston; her son-in-law, Gerald Vandenengel; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Duveen Dews and Reginald Dews; and her aunt, Janet Woodbury.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Vandenengel of Grafton, Mass., a son, Lawrence Bryant (Kacky) of Norfolk, Va., a son, Gregg Bryant (Mary) of Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Vandenengel, (Briana) of Aiea, Hawaii, Nancy Pappas (Alex) of Alexandria, Va., Heather Vandenengel (Dan) of Victoria, British Columbia, and Charlotte McKenna (Will) of Cos Cob, Conn.; eight great-grandchildren, Faina, Mae, Kate, Aster, Isabel, Louise, Jack, and Daisy. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Beckwith, who was a faithful and caring visitor for many years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20, at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 396 Gilman Rd. in Yarmouth. A private burial will follow at the church yard cemetery at St. Mary’s Church in Falmouth.
The family gives many thanks to the staff of the Falmouth House and Gentiva Hospice, for their outstanding and compassionate care.
