AARP driving course set
The Southern Maine Agency on Aging in Scarborough will host an AARP Smart Driver Course at 1 p.m. Thursday at 136 Route 1.
The four-hour class is designed to help experienced drivers improve their driving skills and learn how to adjust their driving to take into account age-related changes that may affect driving ability.
Most Maine drivers age 55 and older will be eligible for a discount on their automobile insurance upon completion of the course. The cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for others. Class size is limited.

WELLS
New adult education classes
The Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education’s spring semester is offering two new classes.
• “From Grain to Glass,” a two-hour class on March 30 on beer brewing, will be headed by a brewer from Kennebunkport Brewing Company, who will give a tour of the brewery, an overview of the brewing process and a history of beer and its different styles.
After the tour, there is a guided beer and cheese pairing in a private function room. This class meets at KBC, at 8 Western Ave., Kennebunk. Cost is $35.
• “Explorations in Singing,” a four-session program, to begin March 31, will cover a variety of topics in singing at a basic level, while building skills in a small group setting and using songs to apply what is learned.

Library hosts sheet shrinking
Wells Public Library will host a Teen Crafternoon session of Shrinky Dinks at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 1434 Post Road.
Teens are invited to unwind after school by decorating special plastic sheets, baking them in a toaster oven, and watching them shrink down to a fraction of their original size.
All supplies are provided. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library.

‘Twelfth Night’ presentation
The MaineStage Shakestars will present an abridged version of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Hank’s Room of the Kennebunk Free Library, 112 Main St.
This group of Shakespeare summer camp attendees has done the writing, directing, casting, costuming and set building.
The program is free and wheelchair accessible.

PORTLAND
Greek panel discussion
Three prominent members of the Greek community in Maine will host a panel discussion: “What Makes Me Greek?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 1 of Payson Smith Hall, at the University of Southern Maine Portland campus.
The panel is presented by the Hellenic Society of Maine as a continuing project to preserve the oral history and life stories of Greeks in Maine.
The free panel, moderated by Mary Snell, will include panelists Anastasia Antonacos, of Portland, a concert pianist and faculty member at the USM School of Music; Carol Xanthopoulos of Saco, a retired educator and president of the Ladies of St. Fotini at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco; and Peter Goranites of Cumberland, a retired judge and an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lewiston.

Engineer benefit for trip
The University of Southern Maine Chapter of Engineers Without Borders will oversee a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Flatbread to benefit an outreach trip to Guatemala in May to install eight hot water solar panels at an orphanage.

History series continues
York Public Library will host the fourth part of its York history series at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at 15 Long Sands Road.
Local historian James Kences’ approach for the series is to present a reverse chronology, as if conducting an archaeological excavation. The series is co-sponsored by the Museums of Old York.

Fibromyalgia meeting set
Southern Maine Health Care will host “Everything You Wanted to Know About Fibromyalgia But Were Afraid to Ask” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the second floor classroom at SMHC Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Drive.
Robert G. Carpenter, MD, FACP will talk about fibromyalgia, what it is, why people get it, what the symptoms are, how it is diagnosed and how it is treated.

The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library will host two children’s events this week at 18 Maine St.
• Wednesday: The “Imagine! Create! Build!” Lego Club, for school-age children, will be held from 3 to 4 p.m.
• Thursday: A Kids Winter Garden Program, conducted by master gardener Shelley Wigglesworth, will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Terrariums will be created and a follow-up session on Zen Gardening is also planned for March 31.
