PORTLAND — An organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of Maine’s wild coastal islands is going online.
The Maine Island Trail Association says it has launched an online version of its annnual paper Guide to the Maine Island Trail, which it’s been producing for 22 years: http://www.mita.org.
The online guide’s contents will be updated in real time, contain a search function and include local weather and tide information.
The Maine Island Trail Association oversees a “water trail” of some 185 islands along the coast. Since 1988, it has entered into agreements with island owners to allow recreational access to their islands in exchange for volunteer stewardship services.
