TEE FOR TWO HOLDS TOURNEY
The Tee for Two Breast and Prostate Fundraiser held its second annual golf tournament at the Lake Kezar Country Club and raised $9,000 for the Outpatient Cancer Fund, associated with the oncology department at Bridgton Memorial Hospital. All proceeds will be used to provide the caring services to those cancer patients who are not insured or are underfunded. The event was attended by 104 golfers and made possible by 61 businesses.
PREBLE STREET AWARDED GRANT
Preble Street Resources Center of Portland was awarded a grant from Harvard Pilgrim Community Spirit 9/11 Grant Program. The $500 will be used to help defray the coast of purchasing and preparing meals to serve the homeless and restocking the pantry. The program was created in commemoration of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, through a special contribution to the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation.
AQUABOGGAN DONATES TICKETS
Dawn Hansen, local Fresh Air Fund representative for Southern Maine, organized a day of fun at Aquaboggan Water Park, which donated 100 tickets for children and their families in the Fresh Air Fund. The event allowed volunteer families in the area to meet one another and share their experiences.
NORTHEAST BANK GIVES $2,000
Northeast Bank recently donated $1,500 to Sandcastle Clinical and Educational Services in Lewiston. The organization specializes in early childhood education and intervention, will use the donation for a playground shading structure at its new location, which opens Sept. 1. The bank also donated $500 to Common Ties Mental Health Services in Lewiston. The funds will go toward the organization’s new project, which aims to increase access to preventive dental care and promotes the idea that every person should have a “dental home.”
CREDIT UNION HELPS PANTRY
Community Credit Union recently donated $500 to St. Mary’s Food Pantry to assist with feeding the hungry of Lewiston and Auburn. Statistics show 10 percent of Maine households experience food insecurity.
HOME-BUYER ED GETS BOOST
People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, awarded $20,000 to Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Wiscasset. The funds will assist in their Homebuyer Education and Counseling program.
WRIGHT FURTHERS TRANSPORT GOAL
Wright Express recently presented Independent Transportation Network with $10,000 to further their joint goal of bringing dignified transportation to more seniors, as well as individuals who are visually impaired. This effort helps these individuals maintain their connections to family, friends and businesses in the community.
