Tiger Woods said Tuesday he won’t at the U.S. Open this year as he recovers from back surgery.

This will be the third time in the last six years that injuries have kept him out of the U.S. Open, which he’s won three times.

Woods said on his website that he’s working hard but isn’t physically ready to play next week, or at his Quicken Loans National tournament the following week.

DONALD QUALIFIES: Luke Donald went two extra holes to join four other players earning a spot in the U.S. Open after a playoff at Columbus, Ohio.

WNBA: Swin Cash of the New York Liberty, a 15-year WNBA veteran, announced she’ll retire at the end of the season.

Cash, the second pick in the 2002 draft, has won three championships, with Detroit (2003 and 2006) and Seattle (2010). She’s 14th in career scoring with just under 5,000 points and also is 10th in rebounds.

NEYMAR TRANSFER: Spanish prosecutors want Neymar to stand trial for fraud because of alleged irregularities involving his transfer to Barcelona three years ago.

Prosecutors said Neymar and his father, who’s also his agent, committed fraud by trying to hide the real amount of his transfer in order to pay a lower commission to the company that owned part of his rights at the time.

EURO 2016: Spain lost 1-0 to Georgia at Madrid in its final warmup before heading to France to defend its European Championship title.

OLYMPICS

TRACK AND FIELD: Distance running great Haile Gebrselassie was part of a group of athletes who protested against the Ethiopian track federation.

The athletes were protesting the federation’s selection process for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Gebrselassie was part of a group of more than 100 athletes who gathered outside the National Stadium in Addis Ababa.

WEIGHTLIFTING: The Russian state news agency Tass said the “B” samples of two Russian women’s medalists from the 2008 Beijing Olympics came back positive for steroids.

TENNIS

NOTTINGHAM OPEN: Caroline Wozniacki’s first match in more than two months ended in victory as she defeated Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey 7-5, 6-3 in the first round in England.

Wozniacki rolled her right ankle while practicing for the Fed Cup in early April and missed the European clay-court swing. She last played in late March in Miami.

MERCEDES CUP: Qualifier Florian Mayer defeated sixth-seeded Viktor Troicki 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the opening round at Stuttgart, Germany.

FOOTBALL

COLLEGE: UCLA Coach Jim Mora agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2021.

Mora is 37-16 in four seasons at UCLA, equaling the school record for victories in a four-year span.

BASEBALL

EMPIRE LEAGUE: The Old Orchard Beach Surge (3-2) earned a 7-6 victory against the visiting Sullivan Explorers (2-3) on a walk-off single by Nathan Schwertner.

The Surge trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Chris Allen scored on an error, Sean Washington then drew a walk and later scored on Schwertner’s single up the middle.
