    EASTERN B GIRLS BASKETBALL: Winslow falls short vs. MDI

    13th-ranked Winslow threw a great defensive plan at No. 5 MDI, and held the Trojans to more than 20 points below their season average. But MDI’s tournament experience won out, and the Trojans held on for a 38-31 victory in an Eastern B quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium.

    EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cony knocks off No. 1 Edward Little

    AUGUSTA — It looks like a blowout, and you bet it was. The wrinkle this time is that the team administering the beatdown was the No. 9 seed. Cony, which had to win a preliminary round game on the road just to get to the quarterfinals, manhandled No. 1 Edward Little, 52-35, in Friday night’s Eastern A quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

    EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bangor eliminates Skowhegan

    Mary Butler and Cordelia Stewart are impressive sophomores, and combined for 33 points and 22 rebounds against Skowhegan. Bragg scored 16 points herself, and almost single-handedly kept Skowhegan from focusing its defensive attention inside. The result was that Bangor pulled away in the second half for a 61-48 victory in an Eastern A quarterfinal Friday afternoon at the Augusta Civic Center.

    EASTERN CLASS B GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Unbeaten Presque Isle the favorite

    Winslow girls basketball coach Lindsey Welch has many stories about the Bangor Auditorium she could share with her players. The Black Raiders play Saturday in the Eastern B tournament, and Welch is holding off telling them about the atmosphere.

    EASTERN B BOYS BASKETBALL: Winslow headed to quarters

    Almost exactly a year after losing a home prelim game, Winslow had another chance to advance to the quarterfinals at the Bangor Auditorium. This time, Winslow came through, holding off 11th-seeded Washington, 65-58, in a preliminary round game Wednesday night.
