Hunter Stuart, 15, a Windham High School sophomore, uses hair clippers to groom his 18-month-old steer named Diesel for a show Thursday at the Cumberland Fair. Stuart is a member of the 4-H Young Farmers Beef Club in Gorham. Stuart said Diesel weighs about 1,100 pounds. The fair continues through Saturday.

Other ways to spend RR money
Gray voters will choose in November whether to donate $500,000 in surplus tax money to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. and Museum. I like the idea of the museum relocating to Gray, but it also seems reasonable to consider what else the town could do with an amount of that size. The town has […]

Flags Around Town
The flags have been taken down from the highways of Windham for another year. The American Legion Field-Allen Post in Windham will place the flags back on the poles next spring in time for Memorial Day. Recently, the Post conducted a fundraiser in the Windham business community and private sector to support this patriotic program. […]
Rethink rezone, please
I have serious concerns over the Gray Town Council’s move to rezone Route 26 in Gray. I find rezoning current residential/agricultural to retail/commercial/high density housing to be shortsighted and rushed. Route 35 repairs, widening due in summer
Construction on a $3.5 million project to improve a section of Route 35 in Standish is expected to begin next summer. Details of that project, as well as information on plans to construct a roundabout on Route 25, were reviewed Tuesday at a meeting of the Standish Town Council. At the public hearing led by […]
Absentee ballots available
Like many voters I have found that the almost year-and-a-half of political advertising and news has about reached the point of total inundation. The receding of the flood of election information is in sight. I am anxious to get to the business of voting for our preferred candidates and referendum issues. If you don’t think […]

Inside Bridgton
Autumn officially arrived last week, bringing with it a change in temperatures and some glorious cool, sunny days but, alas, no badly needed rain. Signs of the season are everywhere: red leaves beginning to appear on the maples, apples ripe for the picking and Halloween displays showing up in the stores. Of course, one of […]
