Town officials plan more testing at Highland Lake Beach and say low water levels and the presence of birds may have played a role.

The state has received more than 60 reports of illnesses associated with people who used Woods Pond on July 2 through July 6, but testing July 8 found the lake water to be safe.

But water from the public bathroom sinks fail the test as officials work to identify what caused illness last week.

As residents who used Woods Pond Beach describe cases of gastrointestinal distress, the town says it will rush release of testing for water contamination.
