Councilors cut funding for Lisbon Emergency. Now they want to add it back.

The chief of the ambulance service said Tuesday the lack of funding will reduce personnel to unsafe levels.

The issues stem from concern around the use of the department’s emergency medical vehicle.

The increase comes amid less state funding, passing more school expenses on to property taxpayers.

The council made steep cuts to the municipal budget to offset increases in the county and school budgets.

Jim Bennett had been the interim town manager before councilors appointed Sarah Bennett as town manager earlier this month.

The project is also behind schedule as school officials await a state permit.

In some cases the fees were more than doubled, though the new rates are similar to what other towns charge, officials said.

Bennett has been with the town for more than 2 years and has enjoyed working for a community with such an active citizenry.

Elizabeth Deveraux has worked for various auditing firms in the past decade and a half with budgeting and cash reconciliations.

Eligible residents, 65 and older, can get up to $1,000 off their property tax bills.
