State lawmakers have less than two months to work out a deal or risk a government shutdown.

Garrett Murch, a Maine native who also worked for former Sen. Olympia Snowe and edited a conservative news and commentary website, joined the administration this month.

He says noncompliance with the federal mandate is hurting Maine veterans, but argues that the Legislature should fix the problem for everyone and not provide special relief to one group.
