The amount of false information, fake news, conspiracy theories and outright lies that young people are exposed to every day has increased exponentially. Seeing and hearing adults whom they depend on for guidance and direction belittling and demeaning others is tremendously confusing and disorienting.

Intertidal: Recognizing the epic journeys of fish
The weather is warming and the fish are swimming – some of them longer and further than they have in nearly two centuries. Last week was World Fish Migration Day (May 21st), a day when people around the world celebrate fish that travel long distances through a variety of waterways. This year, the day included […]

Intertidal: Unique razor clam a hard but worthwhile beach find
I was recently on a field trip to Thomas Point Beach with my daughter’s fifth grade class to see horseshoe crabs mating. Maine Voices: Advancing Maine’s role in the life sciences through biomanufacturing
More Maine people and organizations are invited to join BioConnects New England, which will help connect a new generation of workers and innovators to one of our region’s economic strengths.

Intertidal: History of fishing in Midcoast runs deep
You might not, at first, think of Brunswick as a fishing town, but the history of fishing here runs long and deep. Between Merrymeeting Bay, the Androscoggin River and all of the coastline, not to mention freshwater ponds, there have always been plenty of opportunities to go fishing for a variety of species. A recently […]
Intertidal: Boating safety equipment tips for spring
As I peeled the shrink wrap off of the top of my compost bucket (put there by my wily kids on April Fools’ Day), I was reminded of a different type of shrink wrap that is used all along the coast. This type is not used as a part of a prank but rather as […]
Intertidal: Springtime on the seacoast
Spring is a time for sprouting. Everywhere you look, buds are forming, and tiny green shoots are emerging from the newly softened ground. I often go on walks to places with sunny southern exposures to look for the first crocus or daffodil to poke through. More light and more warmth. Less easy to see is […]
