Windham public hearing debates changing town meetings to ballots

Residents will vote on whether to change the town’s budget process.

A committee formed to decide the future of the soon-to-be shuttered school presented a proposal to the Town Council earlier this month.

After an hours-long meeting last year, the town is pursuing a charter amendment that would change the format from a show of hands to secret ballot.

The municipal budget will be cut by 0.7%.

Presumpscot Regional Land Trust describes the land as a “town-owned state park” due to its size.

The town is accepting bids for the replacement of Varney’s Bridge on William Knight Road.

Viola Lane, a private road looking to be taken up by the town, must establish a homeowners association by Nov. 25.

Windham residents also endorse a citizen-initiated recall ordinance for elected officials.

Councilor Mark Morrison and Zac Eklund are vying for an at-large seat on the Town Council.
