South Portland residents, property and business owners, and other concerned citizens are invited to a community design workshop, focusing on the Knightville and Mill Creek downtown district of South Portland. The event, free and open to the public, is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brown School on Highland Avenue.

The workshop will bring participants together to brainstorm ways that will help make this part of the city of South Portland a more vibrant place to live, work and recreate.

Everyone will be encouraged to participate in thinking and envisioning creative approaches to help build the identity of this distinctive neighborhood. The results of the workshop will become the basis for neighborhood planning, public policy and decisions on new public infrastructure.

Participants will be working in small teams, facilitated by design professionals who will help groups create maps, drawings and sketches of how Knightville and Mill Creek might be imagined.

Pre-registration is encouraged to secure your place at the workshop including all handout materials, refreshments and lunch. For more information or to pre-register, contact Tex Haeuser, planning director, at 767-7649, or at chaeuser@southportland.org.
