Line dancers to entertain seniors

The Golden Country Line Dancers will entertain when the Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, in Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.

Seniors will take a trip to the Country Music Jubilee on Thursday, May 19, in Wrentham, Mass.

Benefit for June

The Tony Boffa Band will perform at a dance to benefit June King-Wilbur, who is battling cancer, from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at The Thomas Room (formerly South Portland Eagles ballroom) 729 Broadway, South Portland.

The evening of hope will include a silent auction, door prizes and more. Tickets are $15 or $25 for a couple.

Westbrook dancers in “Cinderella”

Eight dancers from Westbrook will perform in the Maine State Ballet production of “Cinderella” in matinees at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

The Westbrook dancers are Grace Arsenault, Rebecca Arsenault, Sagan Clifford, Lydia Fox, Sabrina Gattine, Vanessa Pooler, Maura Quigley and Abigail Tompkins.

Seeking yard sale items

The Chopin Club is asking for donations for their yard sale in June.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the Winona E. Taylor Music Scholarship Fund. The yearly scholarship is awarded to a Westbrook High School senior who has excelled in music.

Book discussion reminder

Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., will host a discussion of topics raised in the book “God’s Politics” by Jim Wallis at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays from May 3 through June 7.

Topics will include “Why can’t people talk about religion and politics?” and “Why does the ‘right’ get it wrong and the ‘left’ doesn’t get it?” The discussion is open to the public and to all points of views.

Join Hands Day

Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., is organizing a cleanup in Westbrook next month as part of the sixth annual national “Join Hands Day.” Those interested in helping should meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Riverbank Park on Main Street, rain or shine.

The goal is to cleanup community areas including the riverbank, Riverbank Park, business district and Beaver Pond. Trinity’s youth group and the social ministry group have recruited help from City Councilor John O’Hara along with Mission Possible, Scouts, Salvation Army and other churches.

Bags and gloves will be provided. The city’s Public Services Department will help with collecting the bags of trash that the project generates.

At 12:30 p.m. on the day of the cleanup, Trinity Lutheran Church will serve the project’s volunteers a light lunch, provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

It marks a national day of volunteering and sparks friendships among people of all generations. The event is sponsored by America’s Fraternal benefit Societies in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network.

Trinity sponsoring supper

Trinity Lutheran Church is sponsoring a bean supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the North Scarborough Grange on Route 22 in North Scarborough.

The proceeds will be split among the Preble Street Resource Center, the Center for Grieving Children and the Maine Youth Chaplancy Fund. There will be matching funds of up to $1,000 from your local chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a Fortune 500 member that helps nearly three million members achieve their financial goals and give back to their congregations and their communities.

The menu for the bean supper is beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, rolls and homemade pies. Tickets, $6 and $2.50, will be available at the door. For more information, call 854-5653.
