On Monday morning, Windham police received a tip that fugitive Hoyt Fuller, 38, formerly of Florida, was seen entering Shaw’s Supermarket in North Windham.

At approximately 10:20 a.m., Sgt. David Thomas and Officers Trevor Cote and Jeffrey Smith made the arrest as Fuller exited the supermarket.

“He came out and they approached him and he surrendered without incident,” Lt. David DeGruchy said.

Fuller had fled the state of Florida with a charge of felony battery and had been living on Craig Road in Windham for an undetermined amount of time. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

“He will be arraigned and the state of Florida will be notified,” DeGruchy said.

DeGruchy went on to say Fuller’s immediate surrender is not uncommon among the fugitives Windham police have caught in the past.

“But it could have been worse,” DeGruchy said. “He could have ran and then the chase would have been on.”
