A recent trip to Shaw’s paid off for a Scarborough couple in more than just triple coupon savings. Mary and Leo Cormier won $10,000 in a promotion sponsored by Shaw’s supermarkets.

Mary Cormier said she didn’t believe it at first when a representative from Shaw’s called her to give her the good news. “I thought they were pulling my leg,” she said.

After checking into it, the Cormiers found out that they had indeed won the money. After that, the excitement began. “I was jumping,” Mary Cormier said. “I never thought in a million years that we would win.”

It took some time for the money to arrive. Cormier said she learned about their winnings almost a month ago, but the check did not arrive until last week.

In an ironic twist, Cormier said she wasn’t able to find her husband after getting the good news. She said she thought he was out in the yard having a cup of coffee, but he was nowhere to be found. It turns out, right when his wife was getting the news about winning money from Shaw’s, Leo Cormier was actually at Shaw’s doing some shopping.

As for what they are going to do with the money, Mary Cormier said she has no specific plans for it yet. “We haven’t even thought about doing anything right now,” she said.
