Scarborough is considering two retirement options for police employees. Option 1: After 25 years employed by the town, employees would be eligible for Maine State Retirement System benefits including 50 percent pay (at retirement) factoring in a cost of living adjustment each year. Option 2: Employees could opt for plans 401 and 457 of the International City Managers Association. Depending on the plan chosen, the town would contribute 4 or 6 percent of each year’s salary to a retirement account.
