It’s hard enough for a high school student to find time for schoolwork, a job and extra curricular activities, but Windham senior Justin Mohn has decided to add more to the list.

Known as “Chunk” around the halls of the high school, Mohn not only plays football in the fall, but this year he decided to join both the track and wrestling teams.

The catch is that both sports occur during the winter season. Mohn wrestles in the 215-pound weight class, while also running and throwing for the track squad.

The demands of being on two teams have a dramatic impact on Mohn.

“It is very hard to organize my time,” he said, “but I want to get better and challenge myself.”

His daily schedule is quite a challenge.

School begins at 7:25 and dismissal is just before 2:00. Mohn then attends track practice from 2:30 until 4:00, after which he lifts weights for an hour. Wrestling practice follows and runs until 8:30.

Mohn arrives home at around about half an hour later and starts his homework.

On the rare occasion when a wrestling meet occurs on the same day as a track meet, he participates in both.

At Saturday’s home wrestling meet, Mohn scored a pin-fall win, but his celebration didn’t last. As soon as the meet was over, he packed up and headed for the Portland Expo, where the Eagles track team was in action.

Even though he was a little tired, Mohn didn’t protest when track coach Paula Pock said he would be running the 800 and tossing the shot put.

“Chunk always gives 100%. He is willing to do what’s best for the team,” she said. “He runs hard in practice no matter how far I push him.”

Mohn also has a comical side. He is able to lighten up the mood with a self-deprecating joke or by bringing up his favorite team, the Buffalo Bills.

He is committed to becoming a better athlete and doesn’t intend to stop playing sports after high school.

“This is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done,” said Mohn. “But I want to play college football and this is what I need to do.”
