Windham skier Casey Kenahan took second place in each of her first two meets this season, while the Eagles’ boys team nearly won last week’s competition.

Kenahan, a senior, finished just behind Caity Barber of Cheverus in meets on Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 at Shawnee Peak. However, with only two girls on the slopes – the other being Rhiannon Adams – the Lady Eagles didn’t compete for the team title.

The boys were runners-up at their first meet, finishing behind Cheverus, but topping Gorham and Marshwood. Denny Cobb, David Brackett and Brendan Koza finished among the top 10.

A week later, Justin LaGassey and Nate Butler were in the top 10 when their squad finished within six points of the day’s top team, Edward Little.

“We have finished high up in the standings in both meets,” freshman Ryan McCarthy said. “We have done reasonably well.”

The Eagles are scheduled to be in action today (Jan. 20) at Shawnee Peak at 5 p.m. McCarthy believes that the team will continue to improve.

“As long as we continue to work hard,” he said, “we should get wins.”

The middle schoolers took to Shawnee Tuesday and, for the first time, Windham fielded a complete girls team. They finished in a tie for third, while the boys missed first by a single point.

Windham’s Matt Butler and Joe Parent took the top two spots in the boys race, while Marissa LaGassey was her team’s top finisher, in eighth place.
