Caught on video

Two more suspects were questioned in connection with a rash of motor vehicle burglaries in the past two months. One member of a male/female duo was identified by a probation officer as the individual using stolen credit cards at an ATM in the greater Portland area. After viewing images online of two people videotaped using stolen cards, the probation officer contacted police and the duo were apprehended. Captain Brent Sinclair said the probation officer was “peeling” through the Maine’s Most Wanted Web site and recognized the parolee. Once the duo was apprehended, police recovered between $1,500 and $2,000 worth of jewelry and electronics purchased with stolen credit cards. No charges have been filed.

Vehicles go off-road

Motorists around the area had difficulty navigating the snow-filled streets Monday. Cape Elizabeth police reported 10 vehicles slid off the road, with four incidents involving significant damage to the vehicles, though nobody was seriously injured.

A 17-year-old Cape High School student slid into a stone pillar at the end of a driveway on Shore Road, knocking it over with her Volvo, and possibly injuring her elbow.

A female, 37, careened into a driveway, colliding with two parked vehicles. Her Ford SUV and the two parked vehicles sustained substantial damage.

A 21-year-old girl hit a telephone pole with her Toyota on Scott Dyer Road. Though not visibly injured, she complained of face pain.

A female, 44, was turning into Cape Elizabeth High School when her Chevy Van slid into the exiting lane, colliding with two vehicles: a Honda wagon and a Volkswagen.

Complaints

On Jan. 19, at 11:40 a.m. I, Sgt Steindl, met with a resident of the Shore Road area regarding a child custody dispute. The natural mother of a 12-year-old daughter had given written custody to her relative the day before. She decided she wanted her daughter back and returned to her relative’s home on Shore Road to collect her daughter. The daughter was not returned and the Department of Human Services was contacted.

On Jan. 14, I, Officer Gaudette, met with a resident of the Ram Island area regarding a theft of jewelry. The maid has been identified as a suspect. The case is under further investigation.

On Jan. 15, I, Patrolman Thompson, met with a resident of the Woodland Road area regarding a domestic assault that had occurred in South Portland. The woman’s boyfriend had returned to their apartment and damaged property belonging to the complainant. Her cell phone was broken as well as decorative knick-knacks. She will contact South Portland Police Department and pursue assault charges.

On Jan. 20, at approximately 4:30 p.m. I, Officer Thompson, met with a resident of Biddeford, who had found a large purse at Fort Williams. Contact was made with the owner of the purse, who lives in Greenwich Conn., and arrangements were made for its return.

On Jan. 20 at about 10:55 p.m. I, Patrolman Dyer met with a resident of the Bowery Beach Road area regarding a possible sexual assault of a juvenile girl. The case is under further investigation.

On Jan. 21 at about 3:40 a.m. I, Sgt. Kennedy, recovered a gray Motobecane 10 speed bicycle from Shore Road near Birch Knolls at the southern entrance.

On Jan. 21 a resident of the Broad Cove area found a wallet on Salt Spray Lane and brought it to the police department. The owner was identified and contacted.

The Cape Elizabeth Rescue responded to 13 calls from Jan. 17 to Jan. 23. One patient was transported to Mercy Hospital, nine to Maine Medical Center, and three required no transport.

Jan. 22

Robert Lee Morgan, 37, of Two Lights Road, was arrested on Hannaford Cove Road on charges of drunk driving.

Selina Dyer, 23, of 55 Allen Avenue, Portland, was arrested on Two Lights Road on warrant charges.

Charles Dunlap, 38, of Bridgton, was summoned on Spurwink Avenue for a seatbelt violation.

Russell Coughlin, 59, of Casco was summoned on Old Colony Lane for operating after suspension and a seatbelt violation.

Eric Turgeon, 27, of Portland was summoned on Sawyer Street for speeding.

Jan. 21

Christopher Woodward, 20, of Scarborough, was summoned on Mitchell Road for operating under the influence under the zero tolerance law, operating without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jake Phinney, 18, of 60 Woodland Road, was summoned on Woodland Road for possession of alcohol by a minor.

Benjamin Murphy, 19, of Scarborough, was summoned on Woodland Road for violation of bail conditions, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Robert Morgan, 36, of 14 Hannaford Cove Road, was summoned on Two Lights Road for operating under the influence.

Madeline Bagley, 18, of 17 Oakwood Road, was summoned at Kettle Cove for operating without a license and false plates.
