Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Sunday school at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, on Route 1 in Scarborough, held a campaign to raise money for Heifer Project International.
Heifer Project provides farm animals and assistance to help families gain the means to support themselves. Through generous donations from the congregation and their own contributions, the children collected $240, enough to give two goats.
They decided on goats because goats supply milk and other nutritious products. Extra goat milk and cheese can be sold or traded for other necessities, such as school supplies. Goats are easy to keep, and their manure makes excellent fertilizer for gardens. Two little goats can make a big difference in a family’s life.
The children plan to make their heifer campaign an annual event at St. Nicholas Church.
