Scarborough Town Councilor Sylvia Most has decided to seek to higher office and has announced she is running for the House District 128 as a Republican. Republican Harold Clough currently holds the seat, but he will be term-limited and cannot run in the upcoming election.
Most has been a Town Councilor for five years and ran unopposed in November for her seat. If elected, she said she expects to finish the remaining two years of her council term. She said others have done it before in the state.
Most said the most important challenges facing the state are improving the state’s business climate and helping to implement positive tax reform. She said the state has started making some changes regarding taxes, but any meaningful reform also needs to address the spending side as well.
“I’m excited for the fall election and to take my political experience to the next level,” she said.
Most is co-chairman of the Comprehensive Plan Committee. She is a member of the 350th Committee, Ordinance Committee and the Subdivision and Site Plan Committee. She also is active with the Scarborough Key Club and Kiwanis.
Most, 39, is married to Alan Cardinal and has two stepchildren, Adam, and Mike, both students at Scarborough High School. Most is employed as a management consultant.
She is running against former state representative and senator Peggy Pendleton, who announced her candidacy at last week’s Scarborough Democratic Caucus.
