Scarborough Middle School teacher Tom Griffin challenged his students: raise $500 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, and he’d (gulp!) jump into frigid Sebago Lake during the annual ice fishing derby last month. The kids delivered and so did Griffin, joining dozens of hearty souls who hit the 40 degree water – oh, so briefly – in Raymond to raise more than $50,000 for the MCCP. Griffin didn’t suffer alone. Two of his students, Maggie Smith, left, and Dana Ankermann, center, chilled out with him for the worthy cause.
