Golf dates announced

The 11th TD Banknorth Portland Open will be held June 29, 30 and July 1 at Portland’s Riverside Golf Course. The June 28 pro-am will be held at Falmouth Country Club, a new site, with a field that includes Boston Bruins and NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque and former Boston Red Sox shortstop Rico Petrocelli. New this year, in addition to the main prize purse, are separate purses for Maine professionals and for senior professionals, those 50 years and older.

Riverside will also host the Maine Golf Hall of Fame Junior Scramble, a new event, on June 25. Clubs from across the state are asked to enter a boy and a girl, 17 years and younger, for the shotgun scramble. Juniors will be teamed with Hall of Fame enshrined, club professionals and ranking amateurs. A cookout and awards follow. The main beneficiary of the pro-am and the tournament is the Barron Center in Portland where the frail elderly and chronically ill are given quality, long-term care. The Barron Center Residence Fund received over $30,000 from this event in the past three years. Other beneficiaries are Junior Golf at Riverside and The First Tee, a new junior golf program that opens this year at Riverside’s South course. Learn more at www.tdbanknorthportlandopen.com.
