Linda Armstrong Kelly, mother of champion cyclist Lance Armstrong and author of “No Mountain High Enough: Raising Lance, Raising Me” is coming to South Portland to keynote MaineHealth’s 7th Annual Women’s Wellness Day on Saturday, May 13, at the Sheraton in South Portland.
Known foremost as the mother of seven time Tour De France winner and cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong, Linda is credited by Lance as the unsung hero who assisted him in reaching his amazing cycling victories and his triumph over cancer. In her keynote address, Linda will talk about her journey from an impoverished teenaged mother in an abusive relationship to role model and business executive – how her early life experiences helped form the values and positive attitudes both she
and Lance carried forward into adulthood.
Following Linda Armstrong, local experts will present workshops on a broad array of issues that are of top concern to women, including heart disease, menopause, exercise, depression, sleep, and osteoporosis. More than 50 local agencies and organizations will exhibit their programs and services, provide health risk screenings, and useful resources.
The 7th Annual MaineHealth Women’s Wellness Day commences the celebration of National Women’s Health Week, which highlights the need for women to take simple steps for longer, healthier, and happier lives.
American women are healthier and are living longer than ever before. With advances in research and new medical treatments saving the lives of millions of women every year, life expectancy is at an all-time high. Yet despite these successes, many women still suffer and die from serious illnesses that could be avoided if they took simple, proactive steps to monitor and improve their health.
