Attempted theft

On May 20, a construction worker on the Angel Point Road contacted police about an attempted theft. A resident reported seeing a suspicious vehicle parked near the site on Sunday, and the car drove away when the driver realized he was being watched.

Lost and found

On May 21, at about 3 p.m., a set of keys was found on Kettle Cove Beach by a South Portland resident. The owner of the keys was contacted.

On May 23, a Nevada driver’s license was found at Kettle Cove. It is being held at the police station.

On May 23, 2006, a cell phone found in the Wells Road area was turned into the police station. The owner was identified and the phone returned.

On May 25 at about 3:45 p.m., a father reported the possible theft of his son’s baseball equipment bag from the middle school.

The property, accidentally picked up by another boy, was found the next day.

On May 27 at 1:56 a.m., police found a shiny green mountain bike laying on the grass near the bike rack at Cape Middle School. It is now at the police station.

On May 29 at about 11:30 a.m., a Mitchell Road area resident reported losing a brown tote bag with a wallet, credit cards, Maine driver’s license, a cell phone, keys and personal items. Losses were estimated at $300.

Bike damaged

On May 24 at about 2:15 p.m., police responded to the Cookie Jar where a Chevy Suburban drove over a bike. After driving over the bike, the driver gave the biker, a mentally handicapped male, $40 – about half the bike’s worth. A witness called police, who contacted the driver.

School blues

On May 19, police were called to the high school to diffuse an unruly student who refused to leave a classroom at the teacher’s request. The parent was called to bring the student home.

On May 24, High School Assistant Principal Mark Tinkham reported a theft from the chemistry lab. A scale was missing but later found in the possession of a 15 year-old male student who was issued a summons to court.

Barking dog

On May 26 at about 11:40 a.m. a Shore road area resident reported a barking dog.

Mother/daughter quarrel

On May 24 at 7:29 p.m. police responded to a 911 hang-up call in the Oakhurst area. They found a mother and daughter arguing. The daughter had called 911. No one was physically harmed.

Party Hearty

On May 24 at about 11 p.m., police were called out to the rocky beach in the Sea View area to break up a party of about 10 underage kids. Police found a backpack full of beer cans on the scene but the kids claimed it wasn’t theirs. Police told the kids to stay off the beach.

Civilian Patrol

On May 25 at about 4 p.m., a Scott Dyer Road area resident reported a speeding vehicle on the access road to the middle school.

On May 26, a Shore Road area resident reported a speeding vehicle. The resident knew the driver and provided a vehicle description. A report will be submitted to the district attorney.

Summonses

On May 23, Shawn Babine, 39, of 1 Summerfield Lane, Scarborough, was issued a summons on Scott Dyer Road for speeding 39 in a 25 mph.

On May 25, Fashion Floors Inc, of Route 1, Scarborough, was issued a summons on Fowler Road for an uninspected motor vehicle.

On May 27, Theodore Haffenreffer, 18, of 24 Gayfields Road, was issued a summons on Mitchell Road for failing to stop for a stop sign.

On May 28, John Phelps, 40, of 2 Waverly Road, was issued a summons on Waverly Road for assault.

Fire and Rescue

The Cape Elizabeth Rescue squad responded to five calls between May 23 and May 29. Two people were transported to Maine Medical Center, one was transported to Mercy, and two required no transport.

The Cape Elizabeth Fire Department responded to an alarm activation on Ocean House Road, at 1:03 p.m. on May 27; a South Portland call at 9:00 a.m. on May 25; an elevator entrapment on Scott Dyer Road at 12:16 p.m. on May 29; a smoke investigation on Carriage Hill at 9:25 p.m.
