It took 11 innings, but Windham fell to South Portland American, 4-3, Saturday in the District 6 Little League 12-year-old all-star tournament at Yarmouth.

Someone had to lose.

“The kids battled hard for 11 innings,” Windham coach Marty Laberge said. “I couldn’t ask for any more out of them. We made a few mistakes, but they made a few, too.”

Windham got an A-plus pitching performances from Cody Laberge and Sean Ramnarine.

“Cody did a great job starting it off,” Laberge said. “Then Sean came in and threw strikes, doing what he had to do.

After Laberge pitched the maximum six innings, allowing three runs, Ramnarine entered in the seventh and held South Portland scoreless until the 11th, when the winning run came in on a passed ball.

Windham trailed, 2-0, early, but rallied to take a 3-2 lead into the top of the fifth inning. Then South Portland rallied, tying the score at three.

“That was absolutely an incredible game,” South Portland coach Craig Babbidge said. “The kids came back and played tough all the way through – both sides, both teams.”

Windham had its chances to win in extra innings, but had base runners thrown out at third on three occasions.

Windham was knocked out of the double-elimination tournament Sunday with a loss to Standish.

Other members off the all-star team included Nick Burton, Kevin Cidre, Timmy Davis, John Gagliano, Jordan Hall, Mackenzie MacVane, Benjamin Martin, Matthew McLean, Gary Tenney and Ryan Whitney, with Bob Burton serving as assistant coach.
