Over the years, Fred Kilfoil had many offers to sell the Millbrook Motel in Scarborough, but until now he refused them all.

Vijaya and Manjula Yeety of Scarborough recently approached Kilfoil with an offer he couldn’t refuse and Kilfoil decided to sell the motel he has run since 1978.

“It will still be a mom and pop organization,” said Kilfoil, who is looking forward to relaxing and finally being able to finish breakfast without interruption.

Though he enjoyed running the 20-room motel, it was a job that lasted all day every day. “You can’t go to a movie without worrying about it,” he said.

Kilfoil said the Yeety’s offer to buy the business was unexpected, and he didn’t need to sell the motel. The offer came along and for the first time in 28 years, he seriously considered selling.

“The offer pretty much came out of the blue,” said Kilfoil. “It was like going from zero to 60 in two seconds.”

Kilfoil will miss working at the motel, and is thankful for its success over the years. “We couldn’t have done as well as we did for as long as we did without the support of the local community.”
