When the flagpole (a communication tower) was first installed at the Black Point fire station, it flew a beautiful American flag daily. Now the flag has been absent for several weeks, and I was wondering why.
I am a neighbor of the station, and I miss the flag. We need all the patriotism we can get!

Editor’s note: Fire Chief Michael Thurlow said this week that trees had grown up around the old flag, tearing it as it flapped in the breeze. The fire department has ordered a new one. He said, however, the flag is not popular with all residents. The department has received complaints about the noise the flag makes when it flaps. To try to appease everyone, Thurlow said the department plans to fly the flag on holidays, as the department had initially intended.
A Scarborough resident is wondering what happened to the flag at the Black Point fire station.
